Fiestas de Amarillo, Our Lady of Guadalupe, July 19 and 20
The two-day celebration opens with a parade on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Las Fiestas consists of a horseshoe tournament, 5K/1 Mile Run/Walk, softball tournament, entertainment, a variety of food booths, and game booths. New activities added this year will include a poker run, bike show, car show, kiddie run, and more. The Grand Prize Raffle will feature a 2008 4 door red Toyota Tundra. Raffle tickets are available for a $20 donation. The proceeds will benefit the building fund at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Amarillo for the addition of a new Faith Education and Community Activity Center. Youth For Life Pro-Life Boot Camp, July 24 - 30
Pro-Life Boot Camp will be held on the campus of the University of Dallas and is sponsored by the pro-life ministry of the Diocese of Dallas. It will include training in creating a culture of life, sidewalk counseling, Humanae Vitae, and vocations. It is for high school students age 14 – 17. Young adults age 18 – 20 can apply to be junior staff and adults age 21 and up can apply to be chaperones. Total cost for youth from Amarillo is $235.00, which includes fees, transportation, meals, lodging and your official Pro-Life Bootcamp t-shirt! Don’t be left out! Respect Life Mass and Rosary:
Every Saturday there is a special Diocesan Mass for the intention of Respect for Life at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington in Amarillo, in Mary’s Chapel. Following the Mass, the rosary for an end to abortion and the conversion of all Planned Parenthood workers and supporters is recited on the sidewalk in front of the Planned Parenthood center at 15th and Taylor at 10:00 a.m. On Mondays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. join Respect Life Ministries on the sidewalk at 5165 Arden Road, at Women’s Wellness Center, a center run by Planned Parenthood. Nation-wide and worldwide, Planned Parenthood commits more abortions than any single organization.
